If your student is curious about aviation, D&J offers a fun and structured way to explore it in a real flight training environment.

D&J's Homeschool Programs

D&J's Homeschool Aviation STEM Program

D&J’s Homeschool Aviation STEM Program is an aviation-based academic program for homeschool students, introducing students to the field of aviation.

Through hands-on learning, students explore aeronautics, aircraft maintenance and management, and aviation career paths. 

Students can choose to do an introductory flight with a certified instructor.

Program Size:
Up to 10 students per program
If fewer than three students register for any program, D&J may cancel or postpone the program.

Program Length:
6 weeks, one 2-hour class per week 
Classes will be on Thursdays, 10:00am-12:00pm.

Age Requirement:
7th grade and up

Available at Orlando-Apopka Airport and Orlando Sanford International Airport

Program Pricing

Ground School:
$500 per student 

Ground School + First Flight Lesson:
$800 per student

Tuition is refundable if registration is cancelled at least two weeks prior to the program start date.

Youth Flight Training Program

After completing the Homeschool Aviation STEM Program, students age 15 or older may earn their FAA Private Pilot License through D&J’s Youth Flight Training Program. 

Our Youth Flight Training Program provides ground school and flight time with our team of Certified Flight Instructors.

Students will learn essential flight skills, master aeronautical knowledge, and develop the judgment required to operate safely in the National Airspace System.

Age Requirement:
9th grade and up

Program Prerequisite:
All students must complete D&J’s Homeschool Aviation STEM Program prior to joining the Youth Flight Training Program

Private Pilot Flight Training:
$308 per flight instruction hour

Private Pilot Ground School:
$80 per ground instruction hour

Explore Our Curriculum

D&J’s Homeschool Aviation STEM Program includes six lessons for students. 

Each week features a different lesson that combines classroom learning with hands-on, interactive activities. 

WEEK 1

Aviation Industry and Careers

Students are introduced to the world of aviation and explore career paths such as pilot, aircraft maintenance technician, and air traffic controller. Includes a facility tour and up-close aircraft exposure.

WEEK 2

How to Become a Pilot

Students learn the step-by-step process of becoming a pilot, including training, certifications, and requirements. Hands-on experience includes cockpit familiarization or simulator exposure.

WEEK 3

How Airplanes Fly

Students explore the basic principles of flight, including lift, thrust, drag, and weight. Activities include simple experiments and identifying aircraft parts during a walkaround.

WEEK 4

Flight Operations and Communications

Students learn how real flights operate from takeoff to landing, including communication with air traffic control. Includes interactive role-playing and real-world flight scenarios.

WEEK 5

Aircraft Maintenance and Hands-On Experience

Students are introduced to aviation maintenance careers and spend time in the maintenance facility observing real work, interacting with tools, and learning basic inspection concepts. 

WEEK 6

Air Traffic Control and Program Wrap-Up

Students hear from a guest air traffic controller, participate in a guided aircraft walkaround, and review key concepts. The program concludes with a recap and certificate of completion.
